in fairness, abs were not the only muscle group on today's agenda. i was also up early this morning to work on my couch-to-5k project, and today's run involved an increase in running time. all of last week's intervals were 60sec running/90sec walking, and today i moved to 90sec running/2min walking. the private lane which runs in front of our house is normally about 1/2mi long, but the neighbors closed the gate just past our driveway because they moved their cattle into that field, so i'm limited to going up and down the same stretch of 1/4mi pavement; one direction is all uphill and the other is all downhill. somehow, it seemed like i was always running on the uphill segments. it figures.
i was pumped to use my new armband and earbuds, too, and while i love the armband for my phone, the earbuds are ever-so-slightly too big (yurbuds ironman, which have larger earpieces than the yurbuds designed specifically for women). the silicone earpieces fit in my ears and don't fall out, but they're a teeny bit too wide and made my ears feel like they were stretching. i'm hoping this gets better, because those puppies were expensive and i LOVE the non-tangly cloth cord.
so now i have sore quads, sore abs, and sore ears.
in addition to this, my diet was all messed up today because i didn't pack enough lunch; i ate a tomato sandwich on pumpernickel/rye swirl bread with a bit of mayonnaise, plus half a pita with a few tablespoons of hummus. for breakfast i had the other half of the pita filled with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and a sliced banana. by 2pm i was still about 1,000 calories under what i need and i ended up way overeating at dinner (nachos with homemade chili/taco goop, grated cheese, and sour cream). the good news is i discovered that the luna caramel nut brownie bar is absolutely delicious. might have to get more of those for the afternoon slump snack.
anyone who's breastfeeding, PLEASE remember to account for additional calories in your diet. most sources estimate breastfeeding burns between 300 and 500 calories per day, plus you need lots of water; inadequate eating/drinking is not fun for nursing moms or babies.
today's abs looked like this:
again, i had to take sit-up breaks, but i figure that's still better than not doing anything at all.
see you back here tomorrow...it's getting real.

- 12 crunches
- 12 leg raises
- 20-second plank
